Matthew Newman

Matthew Newman

I am a highly skilled web developer with knowledge in both front and back end. I am a second semester senior at TCNJ graduating in May with a double major in Communication Studies and Interactive Multimedia. Interactive Multimedia has helped me to cultivate my interest for the areas of computer science, project management, internet of things, and design. I began college interested in video production however throughout my college experience I’ve transitioned into going into the world of web development. I love learning new things which is a constant need in the development world.

Thesis Project: Omnistory

Omnistory is a timeline generating javascript embed tool that allows historians and journalists to present a series of events from multiple perspectives. The idea got it’s inspiration from a project called Timeline JS which is a timeline generator funded by Knight Labs. I wanted to develop a successor to this project to address the main component that it never sought to address: Journalistic Bias.

Bias is hard to avoid when writing for even the most experienced writers; especially when trying to understand different groups’ perspectives on very complex conflicts. This project aims to provide a publishing structure capable of streamlining the process for writers to visualize complicated conflicts from multiple perspectives for their readers.
