Overview:
NPR Research, Archives & Data Strategy’s (RAD) Olympus team is seeking a Music Metadata intern. You will work closely with the product owner of Orpheus, NPR’s music and spoken word database. We are evaluating the product’s content, features and more, so you will have a chance to influence the future of music storage and retrieval at NPR. Team Olympus uses Agile Methodology (Scrum) to plan and execute software development.
Essential Duties:
- Propose, evaluate and test new features or bug repairs for database.
- Create and edit music metadata.
- Evaluate quality of music metadata from open source or commercial sources.
- Participate in daily scrum to keep Olympus team members up to date with progress.
- Participate in bi-weekly presentations for the rest of the RAD team and other Olympus stakeholders.
- Regularly check in with product owner regarding tasks, ongoing progress and objectives.

We do not expect you to tick off all of these boxes, so tell us in your cover letter and resume about your:
- Background in music; formal education in music information retrieval and/or library and information sciences
- Experience creating and editing metadata – preferably music metadata
- Knowledge of digital audio file formats
- Flexibility with respect to working on multiple projects and shifting priorities
- Ability to balance attention to detail and accuracy with an understanding of “the big picture”
