On Monday, November 5th 2018, TCNJ’s Department of IMM welcomed Jesse Schell to speak to students about VR and AR. Jesse is a Distinguished Professor of the Practice of Entertainment Technology at Carnegie Mellon University and the founder of Schell Games, an award-winning studio. He is the author of The Art of Game Design: A Book of Lenses. Jesse chaired the International Game Developers Association and is the former Creative Director of Disney’s VR Studio. VR and AR is currently sweeping the tech world of this generation, and Jesse provided an insightful presentation on the current trends, issues, and uses of the technology, as well as a glimpse of the future. Following the talk, a panel of reviewers, designers, and researchers fielded questions from students. The panel consisted of Chris Byrne (Time to Play Magazine), Robin Raskin (Consumer Electronics Show), Barbara Chamberlin (NMSU Games Lab), Emmet O’Neill (Touch Press), Jim Marggraff (EyeFluence) and Mark Schlichting (Noodleworks).
