Delaware River Basin Commission Paid Summer Internship

The Delaware River Basin Commission is a small federal/interstate government agency that manages the water resources of the Delaware River. They are located in Ewing next to the NJ State Police Headquarters. As a result of a grant from the William Penn Foundation, they have two paid summer internship positions to assist with a significant communications/outreach campaign. Interns will have the opportunity to be involved with media relations, community relations, social media and digital marketing, and experiential events. In summer 2019, interns assisted in putting together a high-visibility event that included the governors of Delaware, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION — Outreach Intern position

This full-time (37.5 hours/week) position coordinates, collaborates and conducts events including, but not limited to, community meetings, presentations, activities, field marketing events, projects, etc. Primary responsibilities include:

  • Securing event locations and ensuring appropriate site positioning and set up of appropriate displays.
  • Maintain event calendar: secure event locations and handle event requests.
  • Represents DRBC to public audiences while executing public education/awareness programs.
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

The qualified candidate will have excellent written and verbal communication skills; have the ability to effectively work using email, schedule, spreadsheets, presentation & design software, and social media; possess the ability design, organize, and facilitate educational outreach meetings; the ability work evening events and weekend program; be detail oriented; be highly organized and flexible; be able to multitask and meet changing deadlines; be self-directed and able to complete projects with limited supervision; ability to work well independently and as part of a team; have an interest in and sensitivity toward working with diverse populations; & have an interest in science and the environment.

Specific qualifications:

  • University student – Rising Junior or Rising Senior, major in communications/public relations/advertising or related field, with faculty recommendations.
  • Proficient in Microsoft suite of products (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Strong social media skills
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 – 55 pounds, as well as stand for prolonged periods.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation
