Music Journalist / Writer

START: July 15 REMOTE: Yes RESPONSIBILITIES: CMN is seeking individuals interested in developing the skills essential to working as a full time or freelance music journalist. The focus of this program is on working in real time and building a professional portfolio. Participants will learn how to interview, how to work with publicists and managers, how to craft a smart, funny and insightful review, and most importantly, how to get paid for doing what you love. Work will be evaluated and edited by an instructor with 20+ years of music journalism experience, who will work with you to identify your strengths and develop them. If you are serious about giving it a shot as a music journalist, this program can give you the extra edge to help you stand out. College credit is available and encouraged for this position. We can provide a full evaluation of your work as well as schedule of tasks and learning goals. PARTICIPANTS WILL: – Write two music pieces a week (including reviews, news stories, opinion pieces, playlists and profiles) – Respond to edits, make changes to writing and interact with program editors – Work with other program members on projects – Participate in weekly video conferences with professionals from the music industry QUALIFICATIONS: – A desire to improve your critical voice – Good time management skills – A passion for music – Basic writing skills and some college education are preferred, but not required – Experience with WordPress is preferred but not required – An open mind and willingness to learn are most important#
